New Video And Story Behind The Song “It’s Me”

Sometimes when Troy, my husband, and I are in the midst of a disagreement, one of us will say something that's really sarcastic or just so overt. And being on the receiving end of that, it's like, "Honey, it's me ... Sara." Or vice versa. We just forget who we're talking to and the value of that person. For whatever reason, you cross that line where sensitivity and tenderness are discarded. You'd never talk to anyone else like that or treat someone else like that. Troy and I are working on that--talking to each other and interacting with each other in those situations in the way we would a complete stranger.

Here’s the new video for a song I wrote about that called “It’s Me”

  1. My tactic is to try to "think the best" of my spouse and hope he'll do the same thing to me in those moments when we err on the side of witty, pithy comments that cut to the quick. We're too clever for our own good sometimes and in our cleverness we wound each other. We just celebrated 31 years together and I honestly think it's only in the past few years we'ver really understood how powerful our words are.

  2. Isn't that the perfect song for a "re-do our vows" ceremony? I'm fortunate to have a husband who rarely cuts me down. I wish I was as self-controlled as he. But we're all a work in progress. Thanks for sharing.

  3. i love the album, sara, and have already connected with it in so many ways. i could see myself in that song easily. isn't there an old saying along those same lines? "treat your family like company..." (something like that) anyway, thanks for working so hard to put out a great album and being open and real in the process. it's very encouraging.

  4. This CD does not leave my player. In fact, its starting to skip... the mark of an album I've fallen in love with.

  5. Sara, this song is powerful and spoke to my heart. I've been married almost a year, and your lyrics capture what I've felt during the uncomfortable times of dissension in my marriage. I have looked my husband in the eyes during a painful interaction and said those words.. "It's me.."

We truly do "hold all the keys to all our undoing." With deep love comes the ability to wound deeply, and it is quite frightening sometimes to realize the power we hold over each other. Yet it's so worth all the risks.. I love the moment when we both decide to put down our defenses and let tenderness return

  6. This is really good, but could you post the lyrics? I have a hard time making all of them out. I love your voice, but for some reason, I have a hard time on some of your songs with being able to understand what you're saying. It sounds (to me) like you're running words together, and I have a heck of a time "unraveling" them...but it could just be a sign I'm getting old, too! :-)

  10. this song has been so intriguing to me, as we all do this. i have recently looked in to his eyes, and realized that there is no reason to talk to him so sarcastically or take a tone. and all too often, i am afraid i don't see that no one can hurt him like i can. may God strengthen us all to be more like Him when we face the struggles of marriage!

by the way...how did the marathon go? i was so shocked when my husband and i saw you at the sandwhich shop in Eagan!! there is no way to say to someone in 2 minutes just how profoundly their music has touched your life. You are an instrument that He is using mightily. To God be the glory!!

  13. I missed out on the package that included the stories behind "Fireflies." Is there any way I can still get that download?

  14. Oh, I too am hoping, like John and Jerri above, that the stories behind the songs in "Fireflies" will become available again. I really like to hear how the songs became written. And Sara's concert tours don't come near us very often here in Topeka, KS, so it would be like hearing her speak at one of her concerts. Will you reconsider and allow buying a download of the stories behind the songs? Bless you!

  15. This song has touched me so much--it's hard to listen to, I'll admit, and the video's even harder to watch. Love is difficult at times, and it's good to be reminded that EVERYONE struggles with respect and selfishness! I love the "it's me" line. Good reminder, Sara :)
