What are you doing for Lent?

There is a great award-winning documentary out about the reconciliation process in Rwanda called As We Forgive. The film funds a project called Living Bricks which helps fund houses that are built by genocidiaries for the victims of their crimes. A reconciliation process goes on alongside the building process, and the finished communities house perpetrators and victims alike. The most amazing thing about the film is seeing the physical effects of anger and the actual countenances of forgiveness. Living Bricks is running a campaign during Lent, and I wrote a short story about Rwanda for one of the 40 days of lent. See what they are doing at asweforgivemovie.com

  1. I missed the screenings when this movie was here in the Twin Cities. You can do anything, Sara.... have them bring it back! :-)

I have yet to watch it, but I feel the story alive in my heart from what I've read from my friend Alyson's review of it, and now what you have written.

I can't imagine a more definitive test of my theology of forgiveness, a more compelling demonstration of grace, or better proof that His word is True, and His Spirit is alive in me.

  2. When I was in seminary I met a family that was part of a victim-offender reconciliation program here in MN. They had been meeting in prison with the men who killed their daughter. It was a powerful lesson in faith and forgiveness. It was, in fact, very difficult to sit through their story. So many thoughts and emotions ran through my body I still don't even know where to begin.

  3. just finished reading " Left to Tell, Discovering God Amidst the Rwandan Holocaust" By Immaculee Ilibagiza. A very excellent example of the power of forgiveness through God's love!
