Favorites

It has been so great to be back on the road again for a bit, sharing stories and music. This next month we celebrate 10 years with INO Records, and have been playing a broad range of music from our seven albums with INO. Many of you have shared with me your favorite songs over the years. It is daunting to make up a set list of favorites when so many songs mark such personal, sentimental moments and life markers. My favorites songs probably have very little to do with songwriting, and a lot to do with what was happening in my life when I wrote the song. But in reflecting on favorites, I would have to include You Cannot Lose My Love as a list topper. I wrote that song after bringing my newborn (now 10 year old) home from the hospital. When we released The Other Side of Something, we included a bonus disc with the first run, and it included this version of the song with Kirby and I in our piano room at home. I love his exasperation with me at the end... "no, love." Sara Groves- You Cannot Lose My Love by INORecords

  1. This one is my very favorite of yours. I got the pleasure of singing it at my little one's dedication this Summer. Just the most perfect lyrics - it means so much to me.

  3. Absolutely one of my very favorites. Even though our children are now adults, this song touches my heart and reminds me of how much I will always love them. It is a great picture of our Father's love for us as well. A wonderful father/daughter wedding song for that special dance!

  4. Definitely a fave of mine, too! I first heard it during a very dark time for our family. The truth spoke volumes to me. It was just what I needed to dwell on. Thanks. Also, I think messing up the words to songs is one of our favorite ways to joke with our kids. They are delighted (and yet equally annoyed) by it every time.

  5. That's my husband's favorite song of yours. I would be hard pressed to choose just one, but "It's True" holds special meaning to me. My daughter, who is 3, fell in love with your Christmas album right about the time I got pregnant after having a miscarriage. For some reason I felt that God was telling me that I would carry that baby to term. She's 9 months old now.

My daughter asks about you and says,"When can we meet Sara, the mommy?"

My husband quit his job and started his own business to be with us more and we listen to "From this One Place" a lot lately to remind ourselves that we have no idea what the plan is, but God can see.

Thank you for sharing your music and songwriting with us.

  7. Definitly one of my favorites. We had my son's god family read it at his baptism and I sing it regularly to him and his baby sister.

  8. When I first listened to this song I thought of younger kids particularly my grandkids, 3 and 1 but when I read the earlier comment about it being a good song for a father/daughter dance at a daughter's wedding I paused, I have two daughters both engaged and thought yes, that would be perfect, the other version ofcourse.

  9. My favorite song of yours depends on my mood. This is definitely with the mood today, as we brought home our third baby girl two weeks ago!

And I love you in concert. I saw you last with my sister at Alexandria Covenant Church, Dec. 09. You liked my purse. :)

  12. So true that our favorites come from "life markers". A friend and I were blessed to get away and hear some great new songs/singers a few weeks ago, and she leaned over and asked, "so, are these replacing Sara G. as your favs?". Never, I replied, because (the album) Conversations was with us through the babies, the lost job, the brokenness. It's a forever bond with your songs! My kids (now 10,9, 7,7, 6) know that "He's Always Been Faithful" is my "life" song and we share it often. And I want to say that your latest CD is wonderful and Different Kinds of Happy -- perfect.

  14. never heard this one before, but i think it's hilarious. i'm sure the original is very sweet, as well, but i can see my 6 year old giggling at it. she (and the rest of us) enjoy the gift God has given you! i'm so sad you're not coming to NC during your tour!

  16. Hi Sara! This song is one of my favorites of yours, too. My best friend just used this song as her and her husband's mothers walked down the aisle at their wedding. It was perfect. Now hearing your story, I know what song I'll be playing when I bring home our first baby from the hospital (hoping the Lord blesses us with one soon). Love your music! My friend and I seriously feel like you have discipled us. Your music always has a way of reminding us of what's true. Thanks for what you do.
